Once Upon a Mattress

One of the great enduring fairy tales of all time, this will be a treat for the whole family. The story of Princess and the Pea, carried on by a wonderful wave of songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic, and meoldic. This is a rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship.

Other information is as follows:

Roles available 11 men and 10 women

Minstrel (tenor, low D to high Bb) The narrator of the story. He admires the Wizard very much
Prince Dauntless (baritone, low A to high Eb) He desperately wants to get married but is prevented by his mother's strict tests that she gives to all potential candidates.
Lady Larken (Soprano, low Db to high F#) A young woman who is in love with Sir Harry and wants to marry him because she is pregnant with his baby.
Sir Harry (tenor or high baritone, low Db to high G). Desperately searching for a wife for Dauntless. In love with Lady Larken. A powerful knight.
Princess Winnifred (Mezzo/alto low B to high C#) A true comedic role. A "shy" princess with excellent intelligence, beauty and intuition.
King Sextimus (non-singing role) A kind man who is unable to rule because he cannot speak as a result of a curse. Strong movement/mime ability a plus.
Queen Aggravane(Mezzo/alto low A to high B) A loud, talkative woman who really rules the country. Desperately trying to prevent Dauntless from getting married.
Wizard (baritone low A to G) The Queen confident. Comedic role, no solo singing.

Several smaller roles will be cast from an ensemble of 7 women and 5 men. I'm looking actors who are strong singers as well as actors with strong dancing ability. There will be a dancing chorus of 4 men/4 women as well as a singing chorus with good movement skills but not necessarily strong dancers.

Auditions will consist of a short dance audition that you will be taught the night of auditions. Even though not all roles need to "dance", I need to see everyone's skill level.
Singing audition; you will be taught a portion of one or more of the songs from the show depending on which role or roles you are auditioning for.
Reading from the script. We will be doing cold readings from the script of several short scenes from the show.
